Home Office launches August knife surrender scheme

The Home Office has launched a month-long knife surrender scheme, giving people the opportunity to hand in weapons safely and anonymously throughout August.

The scheme builds on last year’s campaign, which took more than 3,500 knives out of circulation during July and August 2025.

As part of that campaign, 37 Home Office-funded surrender bins were installed across Greater Manchester, the West Midlands and London. These bins have remained in place and have received more than 14,000 weapons since July 2025.

This year, the network is being expanded with eight new static surrender bins in South and West Yorkshire.

The Home Office-funded FazAmnesty Mobile Surrender Van, led by knife-crime campaigner Faron Paul, will also return. The van will visit multiple locations across the West Midlands and 12 London boroughs, making it easier for people to surrender weapons safely.
