Webinar – Respect Orders: from legislation to practice

18 September 2026

What will Respect Orders mean for the people tackling anti-social behaviour every day? Our recent webinar explored the new power and the practical steps practitioners can take to prepare.

The session covered how Respect Orders differ from existing civil injunctions, the legal framework and the implications of making breach a criminal offence. Throughout, the focus was on using the power effectively and proportionately, with victims and communities at the centre of decision-making.

A key theme was the importance of the pre-application risk assessment. This means carefully considering the harm experienced by victims, the respondent’s vulnerabilities, previous interventions and whether a Respect Order is appropriate. The webinar also explored how positive requirements could help address the causes of behaviour and support lasting change.

Partnership working was another central message. Housing providers, councils, police and support services need to share information early, agree who will lead and establish how compliance and any breaches will be managed. A case study helped bring these considerations to life.
