We are collaborating with the Independent Office for Police Conduct to celebrate International Women’s Day 2026.  The 2026 Theme: "Give To Gain" emphasises fostering support and opportunities for women through collaboration and resources.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is the police complaints watchdog for England and Wales. We are not the police - we are completely independent of them.

We oversee the police complaints system in England and Wales and investigate the most serious matters relating to police conduct. Our Organisation’s roots are in the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry and our work ranges from the Hillsborough Disaster to Wayne Couzens. We also share our learning to improve police practices so that everyone can have trust and confidence in policing.

The role of the IOPC is to increase confidence in policing and police accountability by using learning from our work to improve policing for the public and the police. However, we know that few people have heard of the IOPC or are aware of their rights in respect of police complaints.

We work with a wide variety of organisations to learn from your work and their insights about policing. Our key thematic areas of focus are violence against women and girls, race discrimination and mental health.

Some high-profile cases and the subsequent reviews into policing, have led to increased public concern about the police's response to Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). They have also raised questions about the cultural attitudes towards women and girls in policing more generally.
